I think your team will enjoy Mouseheart. It’s a book that’s helped me get our eldest son (grade 4) to read more. He’s had to overcome a slight stutter that was identified pre-kindy. That still lingers and it frustrates him when trying to pronounce and learn new words. This was his first read over 300 pages. Which is an awesome feat. He was keen to read the second as well. I couldn’t find a link to the Australian explorers books on Amazon, so I’ll hunt them down on book depository and let you know. They are excellent.

From a quick search on local websites, amazon, and book depository. They seem to be out of print. The authors are Jo Jensen and Peta Barrett. I’m finding that when I discover great material like this, they end up being out of print. Another example was the Arab Israeli Conflict. I managed to find one at a book fair, but can only locate the newer editions. (which are far more expensive). As for the Australian Exploeres, the closest I could find was one title on abebooks: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=8048870847&searchurl=sts%3Dt%26sortby%3D93%26tn%3Daustralian%2Bexplorers%26an%3Djo%2Bjensen

Have you tried Open Library or OverDrive? They often have out of print books you can ‘check out’ from an online library.

Thanks again for the wonderful suggestions. We’ve got Mouseheart on hold at our local; hopefully it will come in soon. We’ll be checking out the others soon.
